Six-month-old baby tests positive for COVID-19 but her returnee family negative

Corona positive cases spurt among workers returning to Andhra Pradesh from other states

Tirupati: A six-month-old baby girl, daughter of guest workers who returned to Andhra Pradesh from Maharashtra and have been quarantined, was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus in the Chittoor district on Wednesday.

According to the district medical and health officer M. Penchalaiah, around 38 guest workers, who had migrated to Maharashtra from various places in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, returned to the district on May 23. They were shifted to a quarantine centre in Kanipakam and later to Vikruthamala quarantine centre in Yerpedu mandal.

“Among the 38 guest workers, a family of four hailing from Vemulapudi under K.V.B. Puram mandal also reached district. When the medical staff conducted tests for the family, the six-month-old baby girl has been tested positive, while the remaining persons emerged as negative for the test,” the DMHO said.

“The baby girl has been admitted at the SVIMS-SPMC State COVID-19 hospital in Tirupati and the remaining family members were kept under quarantine. As of now, the baby girl’s health condition is stable and she is doing well. We will run a re-test to all the guest workers after 7 days and those emerges negative for the test will be discharged from the quarantine centres”, the DMHO added.

Meanwhile, with the two positive cases reported on Wednesday, the district’s total tally reached to 256 cases. The district is currently having 106 active cases, while 149 persons were discharged and one dead. The medical staff has collected samples of 27,043 persons till now, of which results of 26,744 persons were announced and 299 are awaited.
