VISAKHAPATNAM: With the temperature continuing to rise in Andhra Pradesh, IMD has warned that severe heat conditions will prevail over next week.

Bapatla in Guntur district registered the highest temperature of 43.01 degrees Celsius, the maximum rise being 4.1 per cent. Ongole registered 43 degrees, 2.4 degrees up. Kakinada recorded 42.2 degrees, the hike being 3.6 degrees Celsius.

The IMD report says conditions are favourable for advancing of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands during next two days. The north-south trough 0.9 km above the mean sea level from south-east Madhya Pradesh to south interior Karnataka across Vidarbha and north interior Karnataka has become less marked.

Lower tropospheric south-westerly and westerly winds are prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

Given these conditions, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Sunday. Gusty winds of speed 30-40 kmph are likely over these areas. Thunderstorms will resume on May 30 and May 31, the report added.
