Thunderstorms And Lightning Lash AP, Two Killed, More Storms Forecasted
Visakhapatnam: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds lashed many parts of AP on Sunday afternoon. Two persons were killed by lightning in Ullikalu village under Singamala mandal in Anantapur district. They were Balakrihna and Hari.
The weather office, meanwhile, forecast more thunderstorms for all regions of Andhra Pradesh till June 1 while the mercury has been shooting up in many areas.
In Kakinada, storms accompanied by gusty winds created havoc uprooting trees and a cell tower. Several trees fell in Samalkota. A tree fell on the electric traction wire snapping the power connection to the running trains. No injuries were reported.
Another tree fell on a parked car but none was inside. Close by, a cell tower crashed but harm was caused.
Railway officials rushed to the spot and removed the tree from the power line in Samalkot. They started making efforts to restore the power line. Train traffic has been diverted to the second and third platforms at Samalkot railway station.
An official from the Waltair division said four trains were regulated between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. They are the Janmabhoomi Express, the Coromandel Express, the Santragachi and a weekly special. They arrived at Visakhapatnam an hour late.
IMD said most places registered temperatures above 40 degree C on Sunday. Ongole registered the highest temperature of 43.7, rising 3.1 degrees above the normal. Jangamaheswarapuuram recorded 43.4, followed by Kavali 43.3, Nellore 42.5, Amaravati 42.5 and Kurnool 42.4 degrees.
Kalingapatnam continued to maintain a low temperature of 33.8 degree C and Visakhapatnam 34.6 degrees.
“Conditions are favorable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next two days. A cyclonic circulation lay over Telangana and neighbourhood at 0.9km above the mean sea level. A north-south trough runs from southeast Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu across Vidarbha, cyclonic circulation over Telangana, Rayalaseema and north Tamil Nadu at 0.9km above mean sea level. Under its influence, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam,south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.”
Gusty winds with a speed 40-50kmph is likely over these places and hot and uncomfortable weather too is likely.
