Warangal: Trapped under trailer, man lives
WARANGAL: A 25-year-old farmer, Angoth Venkanna, was rescued two hours after accidentally getting stuck under a trailer on the outskirts of DC Thanda village of Wardhannapet mandal in Warangal rural district on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses said Venkanna and Santhosh who are both relatives of DC Thanda were returning home from Wardhannapet on a two-wheeler after purchasing fertiliser bags in the morning.
They were overtaking a lorry near a curve when a trailer came from the opposite direction. Venkanna who was balancing the fertiliser bag on the fuel tank could not control the bike and hit the trailer.
Although the trailer driver applied brakes and tried avoiding the bike, he lost control and skidded off the road. However, the two-wheeler and Venkanna got stuck under it.
Santhosh fell off the bike and sustained minor injuries. He was shifted to a nearby hospital in an emergency vehicle. “Venkanna came under the trailer and got stuck between the axle and the ground. He was lying on his chest with the axle pressing against his back. As a result, it was becoming difficult for him to breathe and speak. We tried pulling him out, but he was in pain. We managed to give him water until the police arrived,” said a local, D. Redya Naik.
The police called for medical assistance and Venkanna was breathing with the assistance of an oxygen cylinder until he was pulled out. Waradhannapet inspector Ravi Kiran who was overseeing the rescue operation said that the trailer driver did not have an option as it posed a danger to Venkanna’s life.
“We used an excavator and tried to move the trailer, but in vain. We then had to get two cranes to lift it and pull him out. He sustained injuries on his legs and back and was immediately shifted to MGM hospital for treatment,” the inspector said. Venkanna is said to be out of danger.
