Parliament diary: TMC members happy over RS chairman’s ‘Jai Bangla’ slogan

TMC leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy reiterated the demand to change the name of West Bengal to Bangla in Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The West Bengal Assembly had passed a resolution regarding the change of name of the state. But so far, no response has come from the Central government. Mr Roy argued that in 1000 BC the eastern part of the country was known as Banga because a Dravidian tribe settled there. After his submission, Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu congratulated Mr Roy for finishing his submission within the time limit by saying “Jai Bangla”. TMC MPs are raising the slogan in both houses of Parliament. One leader commented later that Mr Naidu was happy to know that one south India tribe lived in eastern part of Bengal. That’s why he perhaps endorsed the slogan “Jai Bangla.”

Rahul Congratulates Adhir for his get-attention tactics

Congress leaders wanted to raise the issue of tax imposition on pension amount of differently-abled jawans of the country in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Initially, Speaker Om Birla was reluctant to allow the issue to be raised during Zero Hour. Congress MP Gaurav Gog-oi tried to get attention of the Speaker but in vain. All of a sudden, leader of the Congress in the house Adhir Chowdhury vehemently protested the decision for not allowing old members to raise the issue. Rahul Gandhi, who was seated next to Mr Chowdhury, congratulated him for getting an early response from the Speaker.

Rahul Gandhi given credit for spotting TMC MP

The speech given by newlyelected TMC MP Mahua Moitra on the motion of thanks to the President has gone viral on the social media. Veteran MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who praised her profusely and posted her speech on the social media, mentioned that Rahul Gandhi first spotted her in London when she was working with a multi-national firm. That time, Mr Gandhi formed an apolitical organisation namely Aam Aadmi ki Sipahi which Mahua joined. Later, the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee was not very much confident about her capability as a leader. She left Congress party and joined TMC and became an MLA. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee recently appointed her the party spokesperson to appear on national television.
