DC Report Paves Way for Use of Toilets in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar
HYDERABAD: Following Deccan Chronicle’s reportage on the lack of toilets in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar of Naubat Pahad, which was leading to open defecation for the past few decades, government teams on Wednesday swooped down on the area in large numbers to assess residents’ needs and make necessary arrangements.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (HMWS&SB) agreed to provide necessary water and sewage lines within two weeks.
Residents said that they were surprised to see teams of officials from so many departments, including the GHMC, MRO office and Swacch Bharat team, visit the area.
Chandramma, an elderly resident, said, “Officials came and enquired us older residents, and found out from us that public toilets which were installed with the support of the local corporator has been lying idle for over three years as there was no water connection given by the authorities. This is a plight of decades, not a month or year.”
M. Padma, 50, another resident, said: “There was a team today from MRO office, who enquired on our long pending applications for pattas for the land we are residing, under GO 58.”
M.V.V. Prasad Rao, tahsildar and executive magistrate, Nampally, said, “In Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, there are few houses which are on government land. Over the past few decades, they have applied (for regularisation) under GO 58, our team visited the place and enquiry is on as some of the residents who got the pattas wants the place to be converted into a GHMC community hall.”
Jan Shareef, general manager, O and M division, Red Hills, said: “Recently, we connected the sewage pipe to the toilet blocks, but there is no water connection. The water facility will be provided in two weeks. We have assured residents of fixing water connection to a large tank that is located close to the toilets.”
