Hyderabad: School bus mows down toddler
Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a one-and-half year-old minor girl was mowed down by a school bus on Monday morning in Adibatla while she and her mother were sending off her elder brother, causing her death on the spot. Pratheka wandered off in front of the bus as her mother was helping her brother climb into the bus. The bus did not have a helper and the driver did not notice the child, claimed the mother.
Daughter of Boyana Venkatesh, a Reserve Police Constable of Rachakonda, Pratheka, the 18-month-old girl, came along with her mother, Chandana to send off her elder brother, Prajwal, an LKG student of Sahiti School in Adibatla when the unfortunate incident happened, said Mohan Reddy, the Sub Inspector of Adibatla. A case under section causing death by negligence (304 of IPC) was booked against the driver Sattaiah, who fled the spot leaving the bus after the incident out of fear and is reportedly absconding.
“On Monday morning, when the school van, bearing number TS 09 Y 1062 came to pick up the kids, Chandana took Prajwal to the van which halted in front of their house. While the mother was busy helping Prajwal to board the school van, Pratheka crawled behind her and came in front of the van. After the boy boarded the van, the driver, E. Sattaiah, started the bus, crushing her under the left front tyre" said the official. The parents alleged they would speak to the school management as no case was booked against them here, said the official, adding that the school bus had all the documents and the driver was licensed, but the vehicle lacked an attender to take care of the students.
