No state consulted us on polls, says Election Commission

TRS says it has written to EC, Vinod is on job.

Hyderabad: The Election Commission (EC) said on Monday that no one had approached them from any state to discuss the dissolution of Assembly. EC officials said if any state came to them after dissolving the assembly, they would take action according to EC rules. They said that they had no connections to the rumours swirling in Telangana about early polls. They made it clear that elections are conducted according to election rules.

Meanwhile, two days ago Telangana government Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma met Chief Election Commissioner Ashok Lavas and reportedly enquired about the possibilities of holding elections to the Telangana State Legislative Assembly along with four other states in December. When asked about Mr Rajiv Sharma’s meeting with Mr Lavas, the officials said that they had no information.

TRS MP Sitaram Naik also said that they had written to the EC requesting information on the possibilities of holding elections to Telangana Legislative Assembly along with four other states in December. He also said that TRS MP G. Vinod Kumar was on this job. It may be recalled that MP Vinod Kumar also met EC officials a few days back and enquired about the possibilities of early elections to the Telangana Assembly.

During his four-day Delhi visit, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao reportedly held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about early elections. TRS leaders believe that the state would go to polls along with four states in the North and say that Mr Rao’s decision to hold a massive public meet — Pragathi Niveda-na Sabha — on September 2 as a show of strength hints at this move.
