PSU losses: Kiran Bedi blames political leadership, officials
Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi had blamed political and bureaucratic leadership for the hugh losses and debts of Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) and societies and the financial crisis the Union Territory is facing now.
The Lt Governor alleged that money has been diverted over years without precautions and scrutiny which lead to hugh loss.
After reviewing the funds allocated to PSUs the Lt Governor noted that amount were released without the departmental policy to use these. “PSUs or societies deviated from their core functions and went into businesses without having core competences and objections from auditors not complied with,” she said.
Alleging that people were entered into government services through back door entry and irregular means, Ms Bedi said that money sanctioned for specific purposes were breached and diverted to pay salaries. “Leadership was both political and bureaucratic and both combined are responsible for this state of affairs over years which is why Puducherry is reeling under a debt and not able to pay even its duly recruited employees in time,” she said.
Bedi urged officials to refrain from being spectators and instead take responsibility for the administration they have chosen to be in.
She also warned the officials to face consequences including lose pension amount if they fail to exercise their duty.
“Public officials are fully accountable. Exercise your responsibility fully or else you may lose your pensions too as enquiries follow,” said Ms Bedi in a Whatsapp message.
“Puducherry’s financial situation is a continuing legacy. People of Puducherry must know why hundreds of employees are not getting their salaries in time or not got them at all. Why have many lost their savings,” she added.
