Elaborate arrangements for smooth idol immersion and Milad-un Nabi

NIZAMABAD: In view of Ganesh idol immersion and Eid Milad-un-Nabi falling on the same day on September 28, the district administration is taking all possible steps for peaceful celebrations. The police department has identified 5 communally sensitive places in Nizamabad and taking preventive measures accordingly.

The nine-day Ganesh Navarathri celebrations will be concluded on Thursday with the immersion of idols across the district. Organisers of pandals were making arrangements for the same. The peace committee meeting was conducted with the elders of Hindu and Muslim communities for the peaceful conduct of Ganesh immersion and Milad-un- Nabi.

District collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu, commissioner of police V. Satyanarayana inspected the route of Shobha Yatra and immersion points in the district. Officials of various government departments are coordinating the arrangements for the religious rallies to be conducted by the Hindu and Muslim communities on the day.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the CP called for communal harmony during Ganesh idol immersion and Miladun Nabi celebrations. ‘Muslim elders agreed to conclude the processions before noon on Thursday. No DJs or public addressing systems will be allowed at mosques after scheduled timings’, he said. Special police teams have been deployed at five sensitive places in the town, he said and warned trouble-mongers and rumour-mongers of strict action during the celebrations.

Milad-un-Nabi rallies will be allowed before noon on Thursday, followed by Ganesh Shobha Yatra.

Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandali, an umbrella organisation of Ganesh Navaratri celebrations, will take out Shobha Yatra from Dubba area to Vinayaknagar through the main roads. Mandali president Bantu Ganesh suggested organisers of pandals bring the idols on time. He suggested the devotees follow the guidelines for peaceful procession.

Nizamabad municipal deputy mayor Md Idris Khan said the representatives of mosques were told to follow instructions from the officials.

Meanwhile, officials restricted the passage of 8-ft and above height Ganesh idols at Jankampet railway crossing where overhead high-tension power lines are located. Alternative route from Nizamabad, Makloor, Nandipet and Navipet were suggested for processions. Expert swimmers and ambulances have been deployed at immersion points as a precautionary measure. As the tanks were with water at full tank level, all the steps will be taken to avoid any incidents, the officials said. Around 3,000 idols will be immersed in the river Godavari in Yamcha and Ummeda areas. The locally famous Vinayakula Bavi (an open well) was also readied for the immersion on Thursday.
