Ganesh immersion: Modi to skip events in Hyderabad city
Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flight will land at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) as against its traditional stop at the Begumpet airport during his October 1 visit to Telangana state.
According to sources, the schedule was revised by the Prime Minister Office (PMO) based on intelligence inputs. Similarly, no programme would take place in Hyderabad on October 1.
Sources said the intelligence reports indicated that thousands of people would gather in Hyderabad and its surroundings in view of Ganesh idol immersion on September 28.
As such, intelligence officials suggested that the Prime Minister’s arrival at the Begumpet airport, which is situated at the centre of the city, and his participation in any programme in Hyderabad would not be considered safe.
Shamshabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) K Narayana Reddy said they received information about Modi's visit to RGIA on October 1 rather than arrival at Begumpet airport.
"We will take security measures by convening a meeting with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to guard the RGIA. In the meeting, the Cyberabad police, especially Shamshabad police, will arrange security at the Shamshabad airport," the DCP said.
The PMO teams arrived in the city and closely monitored the trial run of choppers and other security arrangements. The officials also conducted a trial run with the IAF's MI 17 Helicopter from RGIA to Mahbubnagar where the Prime Minister would participate in a public meeting on October 1.
The PMO officials and Indian Air Force (IAF) officials sought regular weather reports from the state and central meteorological department officials in view of the Prime Minister's visit to the city and he would proceed to Mahbubnagar by chopper.
According to the latest schedule, the Prime Minister would arrive at the RGIA by a special flight on October 1 and proceed to Mahbubnagar by helicopter. Later, he would arrive at the RGIA from Mahbubnagar and proceed to New Delhi by a special flight.
