IMF Applauds AP's Model of Investing in Human Capital

VIJAYAWADA: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has applauded and endorsed Andhra Pradesh’s model of “investing in human capital” and has proposed to other states in India to emulate it.

Announcing this, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy stated on X (Twitter), “I truly believe education is the biggest catalyst in not just transforming individual lives but also transforming entire communities.”

The IMF observation came in the context of the visit to the UN in New York, the US, by a team of students from government schools in AP. On their penultimate day in the US, the AP students got an opportunity to visit the International Monetary Fund headquarters in Washington DC. The students interacted with IMF deputy managing director Gita Gopinath and IMF executive director for India K. Subramanian (former chief economic adviser).

The students’ visit was organised by the AP Government’s Education department with the aim of providing the state’s children a global platform to gain insights into the workings of international financial institutions and learn from accomplished individuals who have achieved remarkable success in their respective fields.

During their meeting with Subramanian, the students received tips on how to be successful in life. The interaction with Gita Gopinath was also a transformative experience for the students. Gita explained how she became the first-ever deputy managing director at IMF.

The team of 10 students said that their visit to the US has ignited a spark within them to encourage their peers to dream big.

Jagan Mohan Reddy stated on his X page, “Thank you for meeting our children and receiving them with such warmth @GitaGopinath, their bright smiles say it all! I truly believe that education is the biggest catalyst in not just transforming individual lives but in transforming entire communities. Our children are shining examples of this. I’m filled with pride when I see our children so proudly and confidently represent our state on an international platform!”

K. Subramanian said, “Andhra Pradesh’s effort to invest in human capital is noteworthy. It’s actually money invested very well. And the YSRC government’s model that prioritises education is something that other states must emulate. I thoroughly enjoyed hosting the wonderfully bright students from AP in my office. That they are all from extremely humble backgrounds makes me so proud about India. Thanks @AndhraPradeshCM Sir! Had the pleasure of a student - Rajeshwari - sitting in the ED’s chair. Blessing her to be the ED @IMFNews in future gave me such pure joy! These kids will make India proud.”
