Bengaluru: The family members of fake stamp paper racket kingpin, Abdul Kareem Telgi, took his body to Belagavi on Friday evening after a postmortem at the Victoria Hospital mortuary.
The autopsy was to be conducted in the presence of a judicial magistrate, jail and police officials as per procedure, as Telgi was a jail inmate. The procedure that was supposed to be conducted by afternoon was delayed.
The autopsy started only around 4.30 pm, when all the required officials arrived at the mortuary. The entire procedure was video recorded as per procedure. It ended around 6.30 pm, after which the body was handed over to his family.
Meanwhile, Telgi’s relative Irfan Talikote told reporters that they will take the body to Telgi’s hometown Khanapura in Belagavi.
“We will take the body to his house at Vidyanagar in Khanapura. We will perform the last rites on Saturday morning.”
The family members, however, declined to speak about a diary which was being written by Telgi in the jail. The diary is said to have all the details related to the fake stamp paper scam.
“This is not the right time to speak. The diary and all the other belongings of Telgi are with his daughter now. We will speak about it only if it’s necessary and when the time comes,” he said.
