Salem Collector Rohini R Bhajibhakare takes fever-afflicted son to govt hospital
SALEM: In another noble instance of leading by personal example to urge the public to trust government hospitals in the wake of a serious public health crisis, the Salem district collector, Ms. Rohini R Bhajibhakare on Friday took her son suffering from fever straight to the Mohan Kumaramangalam government hospital here and not to a private hospital.
The collector's son, suffering from high fever, accompanied his mother in a surprise visit to the government hospital to take a blood test to check for dengue, but tested negative. The collector's action today came for instant praise by members of the public as it created hope among the people to get treatment at a government hospital for diseases like dengue.
Ms. Rohini renewed her commitment today, declaring “I will not rest until Salem is declared dengue-free.”Following a rash of dengue fever cases in Salem, Ms. Rohini was unsparing in her steps to control the disease recently, including heftily fining several private establishments and hospitals for not keeping their environment clean.
