It's chaos at Pottammal
Kozhikode: Pottammal Junction along the medical college hospital road has become a busy spot, but there's no traffic regulation system. The junction is the convergence of three roads - towards Medical College, Palazhi and Kuthiravattom.
The Palazhi road will lead to bypass road so that many vehicles take a deviation from Pottammal to that road to skip the busy Thondayad junction.
It also makes the spot accident prone.
On Friday, the death of Wayanad native Ambily happened as the bike on which she was pillion riding hit a private bus, fell on the road and rolled over by the same bus.
Besides, people from three sides cross the busy junctions frequently. There is no signal system or any policeman to manage.
“Pottammal Junction has become busy spot these days. Allotting a traffic police officer, at least in peak hours is necessary. Many minor mishaps occur here which go unreported,” says Bhaskaran K., who runs a bakery there.
The bus waiting shed towards Kozhikode side was filled with the branches of nearby trees pushing the people to wait on the road.
After the mishap on Friday, it was fire and rescue service personnel who cut the branches after local people brought it into their notice.
According to traffic police, increasing traffic and development of the bypass region causes high traffic density here. Another reason is the speed of private buses which is a major cause of concern.
