Hadiya was inspired by Muslim mates: Source

Salem: As Hadiya, the 24-year-old woman whose conversion to Islam after her marriage to a Muslim boy shook the headlines, prepares to resume her studies at the Sivaraj Homeopathy College here, the institution Monday said it would welcome her warmly and ensure that she completes her five-and-a-half year course without any hitch.

Hadiya, known by the name Akila Asokan before her marriage to a Muslim youth Shafin Jahan from Kerala, was forced to discontinue her studies at the college after a massive row erupted over her conversion to Islam with Hindu groups alleging that she was lured by Shafin for conversion as part of ‘Love-Jihad’.

Love-Jihad is a term coined by right-wing groups who say young Muslims target Hindu girls for conversion to Islam by feigning love.

Akila, who discontinued her BHMS (Batchelor of Homeopathy Medical Service) in 2015, will now resume her ‘housesurgeonship’ in the same institution following the Supreme Court order.

“She was mightily impressed by their prayer sessions, their Islamic discipline and so on, and perhaps that influenced her shift towards their religion”, said a source, who did not want to be named.
