Kodagu flood victims got a raw deal: Codava Council
Mangaluru: Moved by the people's plight during the recent Kodagu floods and landslides, donors had come forward in droves to help out, but Codava National Council president, N U Nachappa Codava claims the money collected has not yet reached victims.
"Over Rs 5,000 crore and material were collected for Kodagu. But where has it all gone? The government has not given it to the Kodagu victims. Our people did not get anything. Instead the Rohingyas' settled on the estates have received all the help," he deplored.
Recalling that the council had asked the government to provide Rs 2 crore to each affected family as compensation, he regretted that no such relief was received. "The Rs 500 crore released by the Centre may be diverted to other districts," he said.
