Kozhikode: Mobile app soon to curb mishaps
Kozhikode: The district administration is joining hands with the Motor Vehicle Department and the traffic department to launch a mobile application in order to ensure road safety. The mobile application named as Life@24, is expected to be launched on the New Year day.
The decision was taken by district collector Sreeram Sambashiva Rao along with the other officials in a road safety review meeting held on Tuesday at the Collectorate.
“With the help of the mobile application, we intend to provide all the information to the public regarding road safety, ambulance numbers, hospital details and also the facility for the police and the public to get the GPS tracking of an accident spot”, the collector said.
He further pointed out that alerts on every accident in the district would be updated in the mobile application so as to get the details of the victims at the earliest.
Audit and action committee will be formed at taluk level in order to implement road safety awareness activities and to curb accidents in those particular taluks.
Distracted driving and speeding are major causes of vehicle accidents and more than 27 percent of fatal accidents involve over speeding.
“We need to take urgent measures in order to create awareness among the public to be more vigil on road,” Sreeram Sambashi-va Rao said.
