Police get high-end drones to monitor Maoist activities
Hyderabad: For the first time ever, high-end made-in-India high-definition drones are deployed in the Maoist-affected districts in Telangana, for the round- the-clock surveillance on Maoist activities.
The drones have so far been deployed only along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and Line of Control (LOC) for surveillance on terrorist activities and their deployment in Maoist-infested areas has boosted the surveillance capacities of the Telangana police, particularly at the time of the assembly elections.
An official told Deccan Chronicle that earlier also drones were deployed in Maoist-affected areas, but this is the first time that the police got high-end drones which are deployed by Army or Border Security Force to monitor cross-border terrorism.
Though the activities of the Maoists are under control, officials said the police suspect the Maoists could create panic among the electorate and decided to use the drones to prevent any untoward incidents.
The drones will be deployed in the areas where the terrain is inaccessible for the security forces and also along with river catchment areas. Further, these drones can also capture activities on the other sides of the state border, officials confirmed.
The Pranahitha and Godavari rivers flow by the borders of the state, sharing with Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
