Violent incidents on the rise in high-stakes Telangana elections
Hyderabad: The campaign for the November 30 elections was the most violent in the new state. For the first time, there was a murderous attack on BRS MP and Dubbak candidate Kotha Prabhakar Reddy as well as many others on independent candidates.
In the latest incident, Congress leader Imran was allegedly attacked by a group of BRS workers under the Borabanda police limits in Hyderabad. Imran alleged that when he was at home, a group of BRS workers barged into his home and assaulted him.
While Imran is admitted to a nearby hospital, Borabanda station house officer S. Vijay said they have registered a case on charges of assaulting Imran and outraging modesty of a woman for misbehaving with a woman member of his family. They are also verifying CCTVs for clues about the persons involved in the attack.
In another incident, an independent candidate from Nampally, was assaulted by a group of persons at Asifnagar. The attackers outraged her modesty, locked her in a room, snatched her mobile phone, preventing her from calling the cops, and robbed cash from her. Police have arrested four persons in this case.
Three days ago, Kosgi police in the Narayanpet district booked BRS Kodangal MLA Patnam Narender Reddy for attempted murder for attacking a youngster in the early hours of Saturday as Kosgi.
Narender Reddy, along with his son Hitesh Reddy, former GHMC deputy mayor Baba Fasiuddin along with their associates abused the victim, Kura Naresh, 30, and attacked him, leaving him with bleeding injuries as the latter was allegedly supporting the Congress.
October 30 saw the most serious incident in the form of thes tabbing of Prabhakar Reddy. It was widely rumoured that Gaddam Raju who attacked Prabhakar Reddy was upset after his application for Dalit Bandhu kept on hold, but police citing his confession claimed that Raju attacked the candidate to become famous in a very short time.
Except in the attempt to murder case of Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, accused in all other similar attempt to murder cases involving similar attacks on candidates, the accused are shown absconding by the police.
