KOZHIKODE: The reconstruction of Korapuzha bridge on the old National Highway will be inaugurated by PWD minister G. Sudhakaran on Friday.
The PWD had dismantled the 224-metre-long bridge built during 1930-40 because of its dilapidated condition. The project initiated by the KIFBI is being undertaken by the Kerala Road Fund Board and the National Highway Authority of India.
The Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society Limited (ULCCS) is constructing the bridge at a cost of Rs 27.17 crore and it hopes to complete the work by May 2019, said the officials.
The new bridge will have more width than the alternative bridge constructed on the other side of Korapuzha bridge. New technology is being used to build it before the deadline.
Corporation Mayor Thottathil Raveendran will be the chief guest at the event. Chemmanch-erri grama panchayat president Ashokan Kotta and Koyilandy legislator K. Dasan will also attend the function.
