Ram Gopal Varma Files Complaint Against TDP Supporter's Rs 1Crore Bounty on His Head
Vijayawada: Director Ram Gopal Varma met AP DGP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy with a written complaint against Telugu Desam supporter Kolikapudi Srinivas Rao for allegedly offering a Rs 1 crore bounty on his head.
Rao, an activist, made the incendiary remarks during a Tuesday news debate. Varma shared the video clip, where Rao can be heard promising the reward for Varma's decapitation.
Varma tweeted he'd also file a complaint against the news anchor and channel owner, which he did Wednesday evening. He accused TD and its chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu, of publicly condoning such violent threats, potentially making "contract killings official TD policy."
Rao's outburst stemmed from Varma's upcoming film "Vyooham," reportedly pro-Jagan Mohan Reddy and critical of TD, Jana Sena, and their leaders. Varma earlier slammed Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh, and Pawan Kalyan for protesting outside his office over the film.
Post-launch, alleged TD and Jana Sena supporters burned Varma's effigy in Hyderabad Monday. The film, about former AP CM Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's death, faces a High Court challenge from TD seeking to block its release. "Vyooham" hits screens December 29.
