YSRC Giddalur MLA quits active politics

Giddalur legislator steps back from 2024 elections, cites health concerns and expresses dissatisfaction with internal issues in the YSRC.

Tirupati: YSRC MLA from Giddalur, Anna Rambabu, has announced his withdrawal from active politics ahead of the 2024 elections.

Speaking to the media in Markapur of Prakasam district on Thursday, Rambabu cited ill-health as the main reason. “I will not be participating in the coming elections either from Giddalur or any other assembly constituency,” he said.

He ruled out plans to join another political party and said he was unhappy with the ruling party’s leadership style. Sources close to the MLA said he was frustrated over internal factionalism within the YSRC.

Rambabu urged party leaders to put aside their differences at least after his withdrawal from active politics and unite for the collective goal of securing victory for the party in the 2024 polls.

Rambabu won the 2019 elections with the second-highest margin, with over 81,035 votes, trailing behind Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who recorded the highest margin. He was previously associated with the Telugu Desam, when he lost the 2014 assembly elections.

In 2019, he joined the YSRC, following the defection of the sitting YSRC MLA, Ashok Reddy, to the TD. Prior to his TD stint, Rambabu had been a member of the Praja Rajyam Party, founded by actor-politician Chiranjeevi, representing Giddalur in the state sssembly during the undivided AP era.
