Hyderabad horse-riding school booked

Horses died, others were found injured in cramped space.

Hyderabad: Salman Khan and his partner Syed Zain-ul-Abideen, owners of Iron Horse Club, an illegal horse-riding school, landed in trouble when one of the horses died a few days ago, allegedly due to negligence.

After receiving complaints, a city-based animal welfare group went to the riding school at Banjara Hills Road No. 12, only to find that they were running the riding school in a few yards of space in an open plot, without seeking a performing animal rule registration. Many horses were found injured.

The owners were given a warning about the condition of a horse, but they ignored it. The horse died a few days later was buried in the yard. A complaint has been filed against Iron Horse Institute with the Banjara Hills police.

Mr D. Joshi of the People for Animals, which inspected the school, said, “The institute is being run on a 710-sq yard plot, of which 500 sq yards is reserved for horse riding. They own six horses, including a pony. Of the six, two were healthy. One horse named Badal had an injury on his left front leg, while another, Marina was weak and in ill-health.”

Zaim, a 12-year-old horse, was suffering from a skin allergy. The space for the horses was also found to be insufficient.” The horses were being fed with channa, straw, and sometimes carrots and jaggery.

Mr Joshi said, “Due to the negligence of the previous lease holder Shabaz Syed, a horse called Sonu, aged five, had died. In the third week of January, another horse, Stalin, died due to lack of medical care. This indicates ill-treatment and starvation.”

Banjara Hills sub-Inspector Dayakar Reddy said, “It is an illegal and punishable offence violating section 11 (1) and the Prevention of cruelty to Animals act, 1960. It’s also a violation of IPC 429. The club was been registered and they have been booked under these provisions.
