CPM writes to CM Pinarayi Vijayan against clover leaf

The clover leaf model will be very expensive and not required given the density of traffic in the region.

Kochi: The CPM has cautioned the state government against sanctioning the proposed clover leaf flyover at Cheranelloor, stating that the project requires a large area of land and would displace over 150 houses and 41 commercial establishments.

In a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPM district secretary C.N. Mohanan requested him not to rush with the project and called for appointing an expert agency to conduct a proper study first.

“The land acquisition notification has been issued for facilitating a clover leaf model junction improvement at Cheranelloor where the NH-66 crosses the Container Road,” The letter read. “The project requires over 50 acre land and will affect 52 houses built for poor people under ‘Lakshamveedu’ scheme besides 117 houses of ordinary citizen, a community hall, public health centre and anganvadis among others,” the letter read.

“The clover leaf model will be very expensive and not required given the density of traffic in the region. The same will have served better purpose if such flyover model was set up at busy junctions like Vytilla and Edapally. It makes no sense when they went for ordinary flyover at Vytilla and the expensive space consuming clover leaf one at Cheranelloor,” said KSSP Development Cell convener G Gopinathan.

The CPM district secretary pointed out in the letter that such development model was not implemented at more busy Edapally or Varappuzha junctions.
