Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh visits maoist capital'

Taking everyone by surprise, Mr Singh flew to remote village of Basing in Abujhmad in south Bastar district of Narayanpur.

Raipur: Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh on Thursday kicked off his almost a month long “Lok Suraj” (good governance to people) campaign by making a “surprise” visit to a village in Abujhmad, billed as ‘Maoist capital’ owing to failure of administration to reach the rebel-stronghold region so far, to interact with local tribals and address their problems.

During his annual public contact programme, the first of its kind campaign launched by any chief minister in the country, Mr Singh visits remote villages in the state unannounced every summer to acquaint him of the local problems and get first hand reports on implementation of various welfare measures and other projects launched by his government.

Taking everyone by surprise, Mr Singh flew to remote village of Basing in Abujhmad in south Bastar district of Narayanpur, from Raipur by chopper, and held “chaupal” (meeting with local villagers) under a tree amid unprecedented security arrangement.
