Sukma attack: 10 Naxals died in ambush, says intelligence
Bhopal: Security forces on Friday found body of a Naxal buried in the site of April 24 Maoist ambush in Burkapal in Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar district Sukma in which 25 jawans were massacred.
According to director general of police (DGP) (Naxal operation) of Chhattisgarh D.M. Awasthi, the rebel’s body was recovered by a search party of security personnel.
“Maoists had perhaps buried the body of their colleague killed in the April 24 encounter at Burkapal while fleeing,” he told reporters on the sidelines of chairing a meeting of the senior police and paramilitary force officers at district headquarters town of Dantewada in south Bastar.
Intelligence inputs suggested that Maoists had cremated nine other Naxals killed in the Burkapal attack in remote villages nearby, a day after the encounter.
“We have specific inputs as to where the slain Naxals were cremated and at what time,” sources in state intelligence bureau (SIB) of Chhattisgarh police told this newspaper.
CRPF officers had earlier claimed that 10-12 Naxals were killed in the retaliatory firing by security forces on the day.
Meanwhile, Mr Awasthi dismissed talks of bringing the controversial IPS officer inspector general of police S.R.P. Kalluri back in Bastar to lead anti-Maoist operations.
