Hyderabad: So far this monsoon season, Andhra Pradesh has topped in terms of excess rainfall received in the month of June. AP Chief Minister N.
Chandrababu Naidu’s dashboard shows the state received 55.1 per cent more rainfall than normal from June 1 to June 26.
According to Skymet-weather.com, coastal AP got 55 per cent excess rain and Rayalaseema, more than 80 per cent, the highest in the country. The heavy rains helped farmers sow their crops.
According to the data of the agriculture department, due to the recent rains, the total area sown in the state is 2.75 lakh hectares as against the normal area of 40.96 lakh hectares in the Kharif season.
Due to receipt of recent rains, preparatory cultivation is under progress. Paddy nurseries are being raised under assured irrigation sources.
Sowing of rain-fed crops like bajra, maize, redgram, groundnut and sugarcane are under progress in all districts. Crop sown early like green gram, black gram and sesamum are in vegetative stage, officials of the agriculture department informed.
According to the Chief Minister’s dashboard, Krishna district received highest rainfall followed by Guntur and West Godavari districts.
While 10 districts reported excess rainfall, three districts Srikakulam, Vizaianagaram in the northern coastal Andhra, and Nellore in the southern AP coast reported normal rain. In the past three to four days, the intensity of rain was heavy to very heavy over coastal Andhra Pradesh due to cyclonic circulation.
According private weather website skymetweather.com, “Till June 27, five subdivisions of the country have received excess rains this season. Among them, Coastal Andhra Pradesh has received 58 per cent excess rains and Rayalaseema received 80 per cent excess rains. Along the east coast, Tamil and Puducherry is the other region to receive excess rains to the tune of 34 per cent.”
However, North coastal Andhra has not received enough rainfall. Nellore district continued to receive less rainfall like last year.
