No state board students in top 10 of MBBS rank list
Chennai: No state board student made it to the top 10 in the rank list for MBBS/ BDS admissions based on National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Neet) marks in the state. There are eight CBSE students and two ISC students in the top 10 of MBBS rank list.
Health minister C. Vijayabaskar released the rank list for students seeking admission in government and self-financing colleges in government quota and for management seats in self-financing colleges on Thursday.
Keerthana K. from Chennai, topped the MBBS admission rank list with 676 marks out of 720. Meanwhile, Raj Chendur Abishek R from Dharmapuri stood second securing 656 marks and Praveen R. was third with 650 marks.
Keerthana had secured 12th rank in Neet 2018 and has appeared for online counselling for AIIMS. “I am very confident of getting through AIIMS counselling and will get to know the results on July 2, 2018. I would decide on appearing for counselling based on the AIIMS counseling results,” said Keerthana
There were 21,204 state board applicants, while 5,449 CBSE students have submitted applications. In all, 605 students from ISC board have submitted the applications and 809 students were from other states for government quota seats.
Despite securing a seat through All India Quota at Grant Medical College and Sir Jamshedjee Jeejeebhoy Group of Hospitals in Mumbai, Raj Chendur will appear for the state counseling. “I prefer to study in my own state and therefore, decided to give up the seat received through All India counseling. I will appear for counselling at Christian Medical College at Vellore also,” said Raj Chendur. However, Praveen has acquired a seat at Madras Medical College through All India counseling and will not appear for state counselling.
Among the top 10 rank holders, four students are from Chennai, while others are from other districts across the state. Only two girls made it to the top 10.In the state list for government quota seats, applications of total 25,417 students-10,473 boys, 17,593 girls and a transgender have been accepted out of 28,067 applications received.
Of the total 19,280 management quota applications of 7,220 boys and 12,060 girls, 18,915 were accepted. Amitabh Pankaj Chauhan topped the list among candidates who had applied for seats in the management quota.
The state has a total of 3,328 seats - 2,447 seats in state government medical colleges, 127 seats in Rajah Muthiah Medical College affiliated to Annamalai University, 65 seats in ESIC and 689 seats in self-financing colleges under the state quota. In all, 506 seats are for All India quota. 516 seats have been allotted for management quota.
The results are available on the official website of health and family welfare department, Government of Tamil Nadu- www.tnhealth.org.
The first phase counselling is expected to begin on July 1, beginning with counseling for special category students that includes sports persons, children of ex-servicemen and physically challenged candidates. First phase counselling will end on July 10.
