Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Wednesday blamed behavioural issues of residents of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Naubat Pahad, for “practising open urination”. It assured to conduct an awareness campaign to bring in behavioural change among residents and make them use the “four functional toilets and two bathing facilities”.
In a rejoinder to a news item ‘Hyd not open defecation free: Scores of women have no toilet’ published in these columns, the GHMC joint commissioner said sanitation staff would be trained to clean the toilets regularly and the sanitation inspector would be held responsible to oversee cleaning process.

We stand by our report. We request the outgoing GHMC commissioner Lokesh Kumar to either personally or through any of the GHMC officials demonstrate to the residents on using a “functional toilet” that has neither water inlet facility or outlet to flush the sewage. We will be present along with our photographer to record the demonstration.
It was also noticed in the rejoinder that the GHMC claimed that the colony was located on private land, whereas M.V.V. Prasad Rao, tahsildar of Nampally, categorically told Deccan Chronicle that it was government land.
