Tender process in Tamil Nadu Electricity Board transparent'
NAMAKKAL: The State Electricity minister, Mr. P Thangamani declared near here on Saturday that there is no irregularity in allocating tenders from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and according to him tenders have been allocated transparent manner.
The Minister, who was here to take part in a function at Pachudaiampatti near Senthamangalam in the district where he opened a new park and gym, established with an outlay of '30 lakh, told reporters, “all the tenders sanctioned from Electricity department are being done transparently through e-tender method. There is no secrecy in recruitments and transfers in the department. I am ready to accept responsibility for any irregularities, if any, in tender allocation.”
On the power situation in Tamil Nadu, he said, “earlier electricity was purchased at high cost of '10 per unit to '15 per unit and that has stopped now. We are purchasing at low rate currently. From the national grid, including from Kalpakkam and Koodankulam, Tamil Nadu is getting about 6,000 MW of power.”
According to him, 1,600 MW of electricity is being generated now from hydroelectric power stations, while windmills are producing 4,000 MW electricity. “The Central government is providing coal for Tamil Nadu and we demanded to allocate more quantity of coal. The Central government has promised to increase coal supply from coming Wednesday,” he added.
On establishing new electricity transmission towers, he said, “three levels of talks were concluded with farmers associations regarding the erection of high tension power transmission towers through farm lands. Since talks have gone on positively, the project would be completed with the cooperation of farmers.”
