Our habits cause calamities: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu
Hyderabad: Ahead of completing one year as Vice President of the country, senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu said that parties were deciding how Parliament should be run instead of the Members of Parliament.
The Vice President was speaking at an informal meeting on Tuesday. “Discuss, debate, decide and do not dispose of the Parliament. The Opposition has to have a say and the government has to have a way,” Naidu said.
Speaking about the habits, Mr.Naidu said, “Natural calamities in Kerala, Chennai happened because of our habits. Love the nature and live with the nature.”
He said that there was a huge difference in the way Assemblies and Parliament functioned from his tenure as MLA to now. He said, “Even the Opposition is falling behind in providing strong criticism. The behaviour of parliamentarians in front of school and college children is shameful and there is a need for self-introspection.”
Naidu spoke on his experiences of life, beginning with apprehensions over eating meat, to being an RSS member, his association with Jaya Prakash Narayan, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, N.T. Rama Rao and his role as the Rural and Urban Development Minister and currently, the Vice President.
