Kozhikode: Collector no' to classes at school's old building
KOZHIKODE: District Collector U.V. Jose directed the management of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, East Hill, Kozhikode to not conduct any classes in the old building of the school citing its dilapidated condition.
The decision was made in a meeting held at Collectorate in presence of M.K. Raghavan, MP, with the school management committee on Friday. The meeting declared the building to be unsafe for further functioning.
Few days back one portion of this very old building had collapsed which has called for its immediate renovation. Classes will not be allowed to take place in the old building at any cost, while at the same time, the school authorities should ensure that the students won’t miss any classes due to this, said Mr U.V. Jose.
As danger prevails in the building, students must be shifted to a safer space. Hence the school authorities will be permitted to implement shift system as per the disaster management act, so that all the students will get to attend their classes regularly. The two shifts to be implemented in the school will start from 6.30 am to 12.30 noon and 1 pm to 6 pm.
A meeting will be convened on October 1 at Delhi regarding the construction of the new building. School principal P.K. Chandran was also present for the meeting at Collectorate. The welfare association of the school also assured to construct 20 classrooms on a temporary basis.
