Minor hit by car in UP minister's fleet, dies; Yogi orders probe, seeks report
Lucknow: A minor boy was killed after being hit by a vehicle in the motorcade of an Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar near Colonelganj in Gonda district.
The boy was playing along the footpath late in the evening, when the minister's convoy drove over him. The boy was knocked down by one of the vehicles in the fleet and died on the spot.
Vishwanath, father of the victim, alleged that after hitting the boy, "the minister sped away. The guards put a break to their vehicle but they went away too", according to a report in NDTV.
However, Rajbhar has claimed he was 25 kms away, in a different car, when the accident took place.
Meanwhile, Rajbhar said that he has asked the Superintendent of Police to lodge an FIR in the case.
He also said that a 6-member team has been formed for probe and has asked them to find the vehicle (which hit the child) and arrest the guilty.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
Besides announcing the compensation, the chief minister directed the DGP to submit a detailed report and initiate strict action against those responsible for the incident.
An FIR has been registered in this connection, said Vishwanath.
