Many Class X students fail to spell their names

The minister interacted with the students individually during the inspection and asked them questions from various subjects.

Hyderabad: Finance minister T. Harish Rao made a surprise visit to a zilla parishad high school (ZPHS) in Kandi, Sangareddy district, on Saturday, and tested students of Class 10 only to find some of them were not in a position to recite arithmetic tables.

He wondered how the students would write their upcoming SSC exams.

The minister interacted with the students individually during the inspection and asked them questions from various subjects. Mr Harish Rao also asked students to write their names on the black board in Telugu, English and Hindi, in which many students made mistakes even in the Telugu language, which upset the minister.

Most students said that they know tables only till 10. He questioned whether their mathematics teacher was teaching well and how can they achieve cent per cent results without knowing tables. He also questioned the headmaster how and why the students are in such a position while testing their knowledge levels.

The minister asked questions from mathematics, Telugu and social science subjects, for which students gave right answers only to a couple of questions. He also inspected the mid-day meals as well and found them wanting.

Mr Harish Rao appealed students to concentrate on their studies for the next 70 to 80 days and prepare well for the SSC exams. He also asked parents not to send their children for any field work or take them to any events and make them concentrate on studying so that they can secure good marks.
