Hyderabad: Security guard held for killing 80-yr-old woman
Hyderabad: A private security guard who killed a woman neighbour, an octogenarian, and stole her gold and silver articles was arrested by the Kandukur police. The accused made the woman to consume toddy and then killed her, said the police.
During early hours of Tuesday, Kandukur police of Rachakonda commissionerate received information about the murder of one S Balamani, 80, a resident of Nednur village and that the body of the deceased was dragged till daughter’s house in the same colony.
The police inspected the crime scene and found that the woman was throttled, and her gold and silver ornaments were forcible removed causing injuries to her hands and ears.
The police said that during the probe, it was learnt that hours before her death, she was seen sitting in front of the house of her neighbour. With the information collected from the locals and other sources, K Bhavanjee, 36, a resident of the same village was taken into custody on suspicion. During interrogation, he pleaded guilty.
Bhavanjee, who works as a security guard with a private company in Kandukur, was separated from his wife about seven years ago. On Tuesday, when he saw Balamani alone, he thought of killing her and take away her ornaments, which he wanted to sell and spend on purchasing alcohol.
“At around 8 pm, Bhavanjee took Balamani to his home and made her consume toddy. When he tried to rob her, the woman ran out of the house to save herself, but he throttled her to death. Then he took away the ornaments, dragged the body and threw it in front of her daughter’s house,” said Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat on Wednesday.
The stolen property was concealed in the basin of the toilet in the house of the accused. Police said that the case was solved within 12 hours after getting information.
