Varuna japa yagam begins in Tirumala
Nellore: The temple management of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams TTD is embarked upon performing Kareeri Isthi -Varuna Japa-Parjanya Shanti Yagam, to appease Rain God Varuna for good showers and prosperity in the entire state and also in the country, said TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal.
The unique yagam meant for rains commenced in a ceremonial note in Paruveta Mandapam in Tirumala with the blessings of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy, the chief pontiff of Kanchi Mutt on Monday. TTD has been performing this yagam from the past one decade seeking good rains. The significance of the Kareeri Isthi Yagam is that since Vedic age, the Sages and Ritwiks used to perform this ritual with utmost devotion for blessing from Lord Varun (Rain God).
The uniqueness of this ritual is that every item used in this yagam is in Krishna Varna (Black Colour) including the dresses Ritwiks performing the yagam. In this ritual the rice cooked in Bamboo, the horse and ram and every material will be black in colour as the Homa (Homam in Telugu) invokes black clouds to shower good rains.
EO A.K. Singhal accompanied by his wife Jaya Singhal took the sankalpam for the Maha Yagam as "Sarvopadrastha". JEO K.S. Sreenivasa Raju also took part in this religious fete. Later the ritwiks who are performing this special yagam performed Varuna Japam in Swamy Pushkarini located at Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy temple. The Vedic scholars chanted Rishyasringa Mantram three times in holy waters of temple tank to appease Rain Lord Varuna.
Speaking to media, the EO said this five-day fete which has commenced on May 29 will conclude on June 2. "Apart from Vedic scholars rendering related mantras, Amrita Varshini Raagam which is prominently recited seeking good rains, will be performed by renowned artists on Naada Neerajana platform this time. We also arranged "Virataparva Parayanam" in Asthana Mandapam", he added.
