Vijayawada: Walking track damaged in rain
Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has come in for criticism for not maintaining development and beautification works.
Walking track developed by the VMC in Ajitsingh Nagar got damaged during the moderate rains over the past few days.
Under the direction of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the VMC focused on improving amenities in city. The civic body has developed several walking tracks in the city considering the increase in number of walkers in the early morning. The VMC has developed a walking track on old Budameru rivulet bund at Dabakotlu centre in Ajitsingh Nagar a few months ago before Kris-hna Pushkaralu. It had ta-ken up the work of developing the walking track along with greenery.
Around 300 walkers use the track in morning and evening. Development wo-rks of this walking track were stalled in the middle and track got damaged during sudden rains.
“Walking on this track has become a big problem for us. The VMC apathy and poor monitoring impacted the quality of works taken up in constructing the walking track. Huge cracks and patches were formed on the track and it hasexposed the poor quality of works. The VMC should take stringent action on officials responsible for it,”said P.S.B. Mallikarjun, a walker.
Motorists were using this track to escape vehicular traffic in busy hours which was damaging the track.
“We have already identified the damage to the walking track. A master plan is in the pipeline for the development of greenery and foundation of the track.
The horticulture wing will take up the development works of this walking track,” said VMC assistant director (Horticulture) Praveen Kumar.
