Will move HC to cancel ‘false’ cases, says Dean
Kottayam: Lawmaker-elect Dean Kuriakose on Wednesday said he would move the Kerala High Court (HC) to cancel a series of criminal cases charges against him following protests against the Periye twin-murder.
Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle, the young lawyer elected from Idukki said the LDF government was incriminating him in 193 cases to seek revenge for calling a hartal. With this, he'll be the MP with the most number of criminal cases pending against him in the new parliament.
The total number of cases registered against him is 204, of which 193 are in connection with the hartal call as the president of the Youth Congress in Kerala, holding him responsible for violence across the state.
"The cases were not as per the direction of the High Court but after seeking legal advice from the state's director general of the prosecution to settle political scores," he alleged.
He said that he was not directly involved in any of the alleged criminal activities. He also denied the accusation of the protest turning violent anywhere. "It's indeed in violation of my Constitutional rights," he said, accusing the ruling party of calling a hartal at the drop of a hat.
He won defeated the CPM-backed independent MP Joice George by a margin of 171, 053 votes.
