Hyderabad: Techies to get traffic alerts during rain
Hyderabad: Techies working in the IT sector in Gachibowli, Hitec City and other areas of Cyberabad will be informed about traffic through an early warning system. Cyberabad traffic police with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will disseminate traffic information early and provide advisories at fixed intervals in order to prevent traffic chaos during the monsoon.
In order to facilitate commuters, officials informed that a multi-pronged strategy is being formulated by the GHMC and Cyberabad traffic police. Commuters can get traffic updates on the MyGHMC mobile app and WhatsApp groups of Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA), and property tax payers will receive such updates via SMS on their registered phone numbers.
In the past few days, the traffic in Gachibowli, Madhapur, Hitec City has been severely affected due to flooding at several major roads and intersections.
IT professionals will be informed about postponing or preponing their commuting plans according to the level of the downpour. They will be sent messages along the lines of “Leave an hour later and save two hours that you might otherwise have to spend in traffic”.
Social media will also be used to provide regular traffic updates. Traffic officials said users can learn about diversions and alternate routes through the hashtag #HYDTrafficAlert.
In order to formulate the traffic management protocol, GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore and Cyberabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar held a meeting on Saturday. Mr Sajjanar urged IT employees to follow these guidelines and postpone their journey to the office during rush hours. Hyderabad witnessed its first shower of the season on June 21 and it led to massive traffic jams caused by waterlogging on the roads leading to offices of IT companies.
