Kiran Bedi, CS review airport preparedness for services

PWD has been asked to make airport's approach roads better for use from August 16.

Puducherry: In the wake of resumption of commercial flight services from Puducherry airport on August 16, Chief Secretary Manoj Parida and Lt Governor Kiran Bedi visited the airport to review the preparedness.

The Chief Secretary held discussions with airport authorities on parking arrangements, transport facilities to be introduced and on the inaugural day function.

Discussions were held with Director General of Police S.K. Goutham, S.K. Diwedi, DGM, Fire Service and Taji, Airport Director on the issue of fire fighting, safety and security. At the same time, Bedi reviewed arrangements at the airport and put forward various suggestions.

Bedi said that a pre-paid autorickshaw facility should be introduced at the airport for passengers. She directed the tourism department to set up a facilitation counter at the airport and to distribute pamphlets to tourists containing details including places to visit, auto charges, accommodation facilities and important contact numbers.

Bedi also ordered the installation of CCTV cameras at the vehicle entry point and Public Works Department were asked to spruce up the approach roads to airport. SpiceJet has committed to operate its maiden Hyderabad-Puducherry-Hyderabad flight from August 16 under Centre’s Regional connectivity scheme or Udan.
