Hyderabad: Future of Unani Medical College students in limbo
Hyderabad: The career of the students of Al-Arif Unani Medical College is in doldrums as they were shifted to the Nizamia Tibbi College after their earlier college was derecognised and unaffiliated. Nizamia Tibbi College, which is already suffering from insufficient staff, has been forced to draw medical officers from 26 dispensaries to teach the students of Al-Arif College.
Al-Azizia Educational and Welfare Society established the Al-Arif Unani Medical College in Bandlaguda, Hyderabad in 2014. The Society succeeded in getting necessary permission from various authorities without having adequate faculty members, departments, hospital, herbal garden and other amenities, which dragged the college into troubles. From the inception, controversy surrounded the college as a few office-bearers started to marginalise others.
The Central Council of Indian Medicine, Department of AYUSH and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences Telangana kept getting complaints on irregularities. The Ministry of AYUSH refused to grant permission for taking up admission to BUMS course for the academic session 2018-19 in December 2018 because of these deficiencies.
The ministry also informed the state government that it had decided to grant permission to the state government to take over the responsibility of the students admitted to Al-Arif Unani Medical College during academic year 2014-15 to 2017-18 only.
