Muslim delegation meets Telangana home minister for Masjid

The delegation also discussed the fate of mosques situated in the Secretariat.

Hyderabad: Home minister Mr Mohammed Mahmood Ali told a delegation of Muslim organisations that the government is exploring the possibilities of construction of a bridge without disturbing the demolished masjid at Amberpet and will take up the issue after the civic body elections.

Mr Mushtaq Malik, president of Tehreek e Muslim Shabban said that the Home Minister had invited them to discuss the matter. He said that the home minister had told them that government has no reservation about places of worships.

He asked us to restrain from any protest till the municipal elections as the state is going to witness elections to the civic bodies.

Mr Malik said that Mr Mahmood Ali informed them that Chief Minister Mr K. Chandrashekar Rao had inquired with him about the meeting with the delegation and assured that the matter will be solved amicably without hurting anyone.

The Chief Minister has asked the Chief Secretary to discuss with the GHMC Commissioner and take the advice of engineers on constructing a flyover bridge and reconstructing the mosque at the same place.

Mr Mushtaq Malik said that Mr Ali has admitted that there is no dispute on the existence of the mosque there as the Waqf Board has records and it was demolished unintentionally because it is not in use.

He said that the Home Minster had assured them that government will not hesitate to discuss the matter with Union Minister of State Mr G. Kishan Reddy to resolve the issue as it is not a dispute between two communities.

The delegation also discussed the fate of mosques situated in the Secretariat.

The Home minister assured them that government has no intention to remove or shift places of worships situated in the premises of the Secretariat. Before taking any decision, the government will take suggestions from religious scholars. He said that they decided to postpone their protest on the assurance given by the Home Minister.
