Rs 3.44 crore seized in poll-bound Vellore: CEO
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer (CEO) Satyabrata Sahoo said all arrangements for the election in Vellore Lok Sabha constituency slated for August 5 have been completed.
Security has been tightened and 19 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed for safe and peaceful conduct of the polls, he told reporters at the Secretariat here on Monday.
An additional ten companies of paramilitary forces sought by the EC has also been sanctioned, he said. They will be stationed there till the counting of votes on August 10. Presently, the paramilitary forces were accompanying the flying squads and on polling day, they will man sensitive booths also, Mr. Sahoo added.
On the seizures in the constituency so far, he said the income tax officials have seized Rs 3.44 crore in cash so far, besides nearly three kg of gold and Rs 40,000 worth liquor.
So for, 44 cases have been registered for unauthorised wall writings in Vellore.
The CEO said as per the updated voters list, the electorate included 7,28,245 women voters, 6,98,644 male and 991 third gender in Vellore parliamentary constituency.
Recently 2, 755 male voters, 2,901 female voters and 5,659 third genders were included in the new voters list. Further, 48 male and 47 female names were removed from the voters list for death and double entries. The final total electorate for this election is 14,32,555 voters, he added.
Answering a question, Mr. Sahoo said the EC was ready to hold bye-elections to the Assembly from Nanguneri and Vikkiravandi constituencies, any time. All arrangements have been made.
The election date will be announced by the Election Commission, he added.
