ANANTAPUR: Even after the authorities led by collector and urban MLA took the initiative of improving drinking water distributor system for Anantapur Municipal Corporation, many areas were facing drinking water problem due to the supply of impure water through taps.
People from Ferror Colony and surrounding parts of 20th division were not being supplied drinking water for the past 20 days. The CPI leader and former corporator Mr Lingamaiah alleged that the people were facing severe water problem.
Even though he represented to the authorities, no action was initiated to rectify problem.
The water works department of AMC had completed setting up of a new pipeline in most parts of the corporation but the authorities neglected to connect to the houses.
“We were directed by the authorities to get a connection on our own by fixing the new pipeline to the motor,” K. Pushpa, resident of HB colony said.
People have set up new connections at their own expense in APHB colony and surrounding parts. But, new connections were still kept aside in Old Town and Kamalanagar areas.
Meanwhile, the constant flow in Pandameru Channel that passes closer to Sri Krishnadevarya University will improve water sources at the university. SK university depends on ground water sources with the help of bore wells dug from nearby Pandameru channel. “We can have sufficient water till next year following heavy flows in Pandameru,” SK university authorities said.
