Green Earth Life: Converting concrete jungle into green spaces
Bengaluru: Working for a better environment in Bengaluru, the concrete jungle, Green Earth Life (GEL), a Bengaluru-based organisation, is planting and growing as many trees as possible around us. The NGO focuses on the 3R technique, which is Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Maitreyi C.L., Treasurer, Green Earth Life, told Deccan Chronicle, “Since childhood, I had a passion for trees and plants, and I had a special attachment with nature. Nature has provided us everything, but human beings are ruining it. Pollution is increasing by the day and trees that are the power source of oxygen are being cut indiscriminately. Our organisation’s vision is to build and maintain a clean and green environment."
GEL plants saplings in every vacant space to improve the environment. Recently, the NGO successfully held a workshop in Bengaluru where one lakh seed balls were made.
“We are attracting students, giving them the needed awareness and an opportunity to join us in our endeavour to improve the green cover. We also work on developing and maintaining water bodies. We also support efforts to save birds and animals. My family and friends have been actively trying to convert the concrete jungle into positive green nature in and around our surroundings,” says Maitreyi.
The NGO works on minimising the wastage of resources and cutting down of domestic waste. It supports farmers in rural areas and builds Goshalas (cow shelters) to feed old cows.
