Mid-Manair dam leaks, kept empty: Ponnam Prabhakar
Hyderabad: State Congress working president Ponnam Prabhakar demanded that the state government order an inquiry into the poor quality of construction which is causing water leakage from the Mid Manair dam. He wanted the inquiry to be headed by a sitting judge of the High Court.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, Mr Prabhakar said that the Mid Manair dam was at the heart of the Kaleshwaram project. The dam can hold 26 tmc ft (thousand million cubic feet) of water it now has four tmc ft.
He alleged the government did not pump water to the Mid Manair dam from the Yellampally project because of the leakage, and hundreds of tmc ft of water went waste into the sea.
The former MP said that with the leakage of water had scared residents of villages downstream of the dam. Alleging that the project structure was defective, he challenged the government to come for an open debate on the quality of construction of the Mid Manair dam.
Referring to the ensuing byelections to the Huzurnagar constituency, Mr Prabhakar said that if the TRS won the seat it would make the ruling party more arrogant.
