Osmania University alumni can now stay in hostels
Hyderabad: Alumni of Osmania University can now stay in their old rooms as part of the Global Alumni Meet in December.
Varsity officials decided to provide this facility to the alumni after many of them showed interest in staying in their old rooms as they feel nostalgic whenever they visit the campus.
Professor P. Laxmi-narayana, special officer Alumni Association of Osmania University, said, “Many alumni will visit the campus during the meet and instead of making them stay somewhere we decided to arrange old rooms for them. Most of them wish to contribute for the development of the university. So, instead of staying outside they can spend more time in the campus.”
He added, “Nothing has been finalised. We are planning to speak to the current occupants to share the rooms with the alumni for two days. During their stay, the alumni can also use the hostel mess and library and can also sit in the classrooms.”
P. Sridhar Narayana, an alumni from 1988 batch who is a buisnessman in Bengaluru, said, “If that happens then I would love to have that experience. Most of us are no more connected with Hyderabad after having graduated from the university. We will observe development required. For that, we need to spend some time in the campus. We won’t mind the university charging us more for staying in the campus.”
Dr V. Vijay, general secretary, Alumni Association of Osmania University College of Engineering, said, “I used to stay in room number 22 in the boys hostel and it will be really nostalgic if I get the chance to stay in my old room. We passed in 1988 and when we celebrated the silver jubliee re-union in 2013, we brought biryani from Astoria restaurant like I used to buy when I was studying.”
