Under fire for stringent economic norms: Narendra Modi

PM Modi flayed the previous UPA government for allowing it to linger for nearly two decades.

Bidar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is under fire for the slowdown in the economy due to demonetization and the introduction of GST, on Sunday tried to turn the table on his critics saying he was being criticised because of the stringent measures he had initiated to stop the unbridled looting of the treasury by some rich people, which had deprived the poor of benefits due to them.

Asserting that he would not swerve from his avowed objective of cleansing the system, Mr Modi sought the blessings of people to carry forward his mission.

Referring to the 110-km Bidar-Gulbarga railway project, which he earlier dedicated to the nation, Mr Modi flayed the previous UPA government for allowing it to linger for nearly two decades. “The project could have been completed in three years. Due to this, the cost of the project has shot up by over 300 per cent to Rs 1,542 crore. There is criminal negligence on the part of the previous Congress government which allowed several projects to languish after launching them. Atkaana, latkaana and bhatkaana (Impeding, Dragging and misleading) was the hallmark of Congress culture. If the country has to progress, we have to put an end to this Congress-culture and complete projects in stipulated time. My government is working in this direction and has set aside '9 lakh crore for completing these projects,” Mr Modi said referring to the measures taken to open Jan Dhan accounts, electrification of 80,000 villages without power supply and also extension of insurance benefit for farmers.
