A marriage invitation for Lord Ayyappa
SANNIDHANAM: Faith can move even mountains and so Lord Ayyappa’s devotees send him letters from distant places seeking his blessings to fulfil their desires. A post-office functions at Sabrimala during the pilgrimage season from November 15 to January 18 every year and the staff have a busy time sorting out letters for the Lord that are sent from different parts of the country and abroad, including the UK and the USA. Incidentally, the name of the post-master at Sannidhanam is M. Ayyappan.
This time, Lord Ayyappa has received a marriage invitation from Karnataka. Sindhu and Prabhakar Ramachandra Raykar from Vidya Nagar near Sirsi have sought Ayyappa swami’s presence during the marriage of their daughter to be held on December 3.
The post-master said they get a couple of such letters every day during the season. Some devotees believe that they would receive the Lord’s blessings by sending letters to him. “Some send even appointment letters to be placed before the Lord. We also receive money orders in the name of Ayyappa,” he said.
He takes these letters to the presence of Ayyappa as desired by the devotees. The post-office began functioning at Sannidhanam from 1984 onwards.
